Classic Christmas

CLASSIC CHRISTMAS began one night while I was giving a public performance of Beethoven's"Moonlight Sonata." It was Christmas, and I decided to have a little fun. I transitioned into "Oh Holy Night" and then back again. The audience really seemed to like it (always a good sign!) and so later, in my studio at home, I played around with a half-dozen other piano classics that seemed to partner so well with Christmas carols. Although the combinations are endless, I chose these particular ones as my favorites. On this album, you will hear these little medleys blended with other holiday music, and a few of my own compositions as well.

 

When I first wrote the song "Christmastime Is Near," my thoughts floated back to childhood Christmases with anticipation of endless fun, family visits, gifts, and all the great holiday food and music. "By The Fire," on the other hand, was written with more thoughtful themes in mind: the fullness and comfort of good friendships, holiday gatherings, and gift giving from another perspective. As grownups we've learned it's more blessed to give and to share of ourselves, and so this music is my gift to you.

 

As I write these notes, and anticipate the release of this, my 49"' album, I am drawn to another theme: the future. As our children grow, mature, and one day become parents themselves, the cycle repeats itself. May you have your own Classic Christmas and give thanks to God for being alive. May you continue to cherish loving thoughts of those good folks life has brought your way, and may this music help you make memories that will last a lifetime.
