Who can resist these sentimental melodies and haunting refrains from a time when love songs were truly love songs? It was such a pleasure to arrange and record these selections, it was as if some unseen muse guided my hands. These songs reflect a time of great struggle, and many performers adapted heroic classical melodies into the popular vogue. The last song is in fact a piece by Frederick Chopin, and for that reason, I included a bit of Mr. Chopin's original score into my arrangement.

The cover photo is also a timeless treasure taken by Lt. Victor Jorgensen, who was certainly in the right place at the right time. My thanks to him and the great folks at Corbis©. A special thanks to the brilliant Brian Shaw who helped me edit until the wee hours, and to recording engineer Shantih Hanst for making the impossible seem effortless. My graphic designer, Dan Sipple, also deserves much credit and my sincere thanks. I cannot begin to adequately thank my music teachers Audrey Miller, Ruth Huff, and Daniel Pollack for their lives of dedication to teaching their art to young people.

It is my hope that you will ALL embrace the music on this album and enjoy both the fond memories and fresh feelings which I have tried to share.
